MPSA Website PDF Print E-mail

Shri Guru Granth Sahib Ji“The vision of the Metropolitan Police Sikh Association website is to provide a one-stop-shop for informing, helping and enlisting the Sikh community in London and, in the future, to roll out this service nationally”. Vision Statement - Satty Shergill, Project Manager.

The Sikh Police Web Site Project was initiated in September2008. The project aimed to produce a website on behalf ofthe MPSA. The objectives of the website are to:

  • Provide information on Sikhism - and for non Sikh police officers providing useful information on a code of conduct when dealing with the Sikh Community.

  • Raise the profile of the MPS to the Sikh community.

  • Attract members of the Sikh community to join the MPS.

  • Provide details of previous and future events and community projects which the MPSA have been involved in.

  • Promote the work of the MPSA.

  • Provide a mechanism for anyone to contact a Sikh officer within the MPS.

  • Provide useful information and guidance on areas such as Honour Based Violence and Forced Marriages.

Satty Shergill secured the support of the Deputy Assistant Commissioner, Alf Hitchcock, who agreed the objectives and benefits from the website. The website will be a portal to promote and publicise the community work that the MPSA are involved in. Importantly, a further aim would be to work in collaboration with the MPS to provide an enhanced service, specifically designed for Sikh victims of crime, by assisting the user in logging a non-emergency crime on the MPS website, but advising them of the option of specifing that they require the assistance of a Sikh officer.

The website contains all matters that are relevant to Sikhs and policing. It has already received thousands of ‘hits’and is being used across the forty-three Police Forces in England and Wales.

The success of this website project is due to the commitment, enthusiasm and drive to serve the Guru Panth by Satty Shergill and her ‘Virtual Team’ consisting of Onkar Singh and Gagan Singh.
