PC Raval is presented with her award

The Met's longest serving Asian woman police officer has been awarded for her contribution to policing and the Sikh community by the Greater London Authority.

PC Purnima Raval, from the Palace of Westminster OCU was presented with the special GLA Vaisakhi award by Deputy GLA Chair, Richard Barnes and Chair of the Vaisakhi Committee, Manjit Buttar during the festival at Trafalgar Square earlier this month.

Purnima has twenty-eight years service with the Metropolitan Police Service and has worked at various police stations throughout her career. Presently, Purnima is based in the Palace of Westminster.

DS Gurpal Virdi, from the Met police Sikh Association said:

"Purnima's dedication to the Asian community has been outstanding, which has involved doing a lot of work in her own time, especially with Asian women addressing important issues such as equality and domestic violence."Purnima has an excellent understanding of the Sikh and Hindu cultures and is also a key member of the Metropolitan Police Sikh Association and has given several hours of her time to promote its work. She is a great role model to other current and would-be Asian officers."
